New Student Orientation at TC3
Important Steps Before Coming to Orientation
All new students at TC3 need to attend Pre-Enrollment Orientation. At Pre-Enrollment Orientation, students gain access to their myTC3 online account, learn important information about the College, take any placement tests that are needed, meet individually with an academic advisor, and register for courses. Transfer students and students who have been to TC3 in the past but who have been away from the College for at least a year also need to attend Pre-Enrollment Orientation. For most students, Pre-Enrollment Orientation is a full-day session and it is important to plan ahead and ensure that you have time allocated to be on campus all day and that appropriate travel arrangements have been if you are coming from a distance. Students who are completing a fully online degree program at the College and who live too far away to reasonably travel to TC3 will work with an advisor from the Student Success and Advisement office to complete enrollment requirements without visiting campus, usually via phone.
In order to set up a Pre-Enrollment Orientation appointment, students must have been accepted to the college, and must have sent in any transcripts from prior colleges as well as proof of high school graduation or receipt of a GED. In addition, students must have submitted immunization records as required by New York State. In preparation for your Pre-Enrollment Orientation appointment, those students taking placement testing should prepare in advance by reviewing sample questions and understanding what to expect on the tests. Students should also begin to review the requirements of their chosen degree program in the TC3 Catalog.
Students should not wait until they have come to campus for Pre-Enrollment Orientation to begin the financial aid process. The earlier that students complete their FAFSA, the sooner they can follow up on any additional information that is required to ultimately complete their financial aid package. Review the steps on the admissions home page for more information about steps to complete.
Once you have attended Pre-Enrollment Orientation, it is important that you regularly check your myMAIL account for important email updates and continue to review financial aid and billing updates through your myINFO account. Students should also regularly visit the “Student Information” Community Group in their myWEB COURSES account for additional announcements and information.
Making Connections for Success
All new students are strongly encouraged to attend New Student Orientation and Welcome Week activities at TC3. New on-campus resident students are required to attend many orientation events. At orientation you will connect with the people at TC3 who can help you succeed. Orientation will also help you understand the beliefs and skills necessary for college success. You will have the opportunity to meet faculty in your academic program and to learn what they expect in the classroom.
Some orientation activities are intended for all new students, while other are designed specifically for commuter students or residence life students. We also offer programs for specific student groups, including adult students, students taking online courses, veteran students, and more. All orientation activities are free.
The detailed schedule of Orientation events can be found on the orientation schedule page. All new students should also check the “Student Information” group for in myWEB COURSES for Orientation information. Please make sure you are ready for the start of the semester by completing all steps on the checklist from your Academic Planning Guide that you received at Pre-Enrollment Orientation prior to the start of classes.
