Student Code of Conduct

Students enrolling at Tompkins Cortland Community College assume an obligation to conduct themselves in a manner compatible with the functions of the college as an educational institution. All conduct which adversely affects the student’s suitability as a member of the academic community shall result in appropriate disciplinary action which might include:

  • Expulsion from the college, not to exceed a time period of one year
  • Loss of credit in a course (for cheating or plagiarism) See "Statement of Academic Integrity%q
  • Written warning, a copy of which will be kept on file in the dean of students office for a period not to exceed three years from the date of warning

Students and student organizations should always be free to support causes by orderly means which do not disrupt the regular and essential operation of the institution. At the same time, it should be made clear to the community that in their public expressions or demonstrations, students or student organizations speak only for themselves.

In civil or criminal cases the college will cooperate with both the civil authorities and the student defendant regarding background information for the particular case in question. Should students charged with a law violation request assistance from the college, a representative from the dean of students office will advise them and offer the appropriate help. No attempt will be made to isolate students from the legal consequences of their actions.
