Security AlertsTC3 Student ArrestedSeptember 17, 2008–TC3 Peace Officers arrested a TC3 student on sexual abuse charges Wednesday evening. The arrest followed an investigation into an incident in an apartment in one of the College's residence halls. On Tuesday, TC3 Public Safety was notified of an incident where a male student made unwanted sexual contact with a TC3 residential student in her apartment. The male student does not live in the residence halls, but was an acquaintance of one of the females who lives in the apartment and had given him access to the apartment. Following the investigation, the student has been charged with first degree sexual abuse, a class D felony. He was arraigned in Dryden Town court and sent to county jail with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. The New York State Police assisted in the investigation. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the safety of your own living space. Students are cautioned to not allow access to your apartment or room to anyone you aren't comfortable with or don't know. As we move forward this semester, College staff will continue to provide educational programming on safety to our residential students, while also exploring new ways to get important safety messages out. September 15, 2008There was a fire in Tioughnioga Hall (Building E) Sunday morning, September 14, 2008. No one was injured. Here are the details: The fire occurred at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. It was confined to the bathroom of a fourth-floor apartment. Preliminary investigation indicates the fire was caused by a faulty light fixture in the bathroom. The fire activated the sprinkler system in the bathroom, which extinguished the fire. The Dryden Fire Department and Dryden Police Department responded to the alarm, with the fire department ensuring the fire was out. There is water damage to the apartment and the ones directly below it. A total of four students and one staff member live in the apartments that suffered water damage. When the fire trigger the alarm, Tioughnioga Hall was evacuated. Many students went to friends' rooms, but other residence halls and the main campus building were also opened. By mid-morning, the alarm and sprinkler systems were back on-line and Tioughnioga Hall was re-opened to residents. Work on cleaning the affected apartments began in the morning, but it's possible the students in the rooms that suffered water damage may be relocated for a few days. | ||
