The final home match of the year for the TC3 volleyball saw the home team do something they hadn't been able to do in the previous home contests – win. Playing traditional power Mohawk Valley Community College, the Panthers took three out of four for the win. TC3 is now 8-9-1 while Mohawk Valley falls to 11-12.

TC3 responded by scoring two straight to lead 29-28 before Mohawk Valley broke back with two straight to reclaim the lead. The Panthers managed to hold off the game point with a big kill from Megan Sherman tying the score at 30-30. After Mohawk Valley broke serve, TC3 fought off another game point with another Sherman kill, this one blasting through a Mohawk Valley block. An attack error by the visitors set the stage for a Sherman kill to win the game, 33-31.

Looking avoid the sweep, Mohawk Valley came out strong in game three, moving to a five-point lead early. TC3 came back to tie the game at 11-11 and took a brief lead at 12-11, but the visitors pulled away and cruised to a 30-22 win.

Game four was a classic match early, with the two teams trading the lead several times. With Mohawk Valley ahead 19-18, the Panthers scored two straight for the final lead change. After a pair of ties, TC3 managed to hold a lead the rest of the way, winning 30-26.

Panthers Fall to Defending Regional Champs

Saturday, September 23, 2006

Despite playing at home for just the second time this season, the TC3 volleyball team couldn't get anything going in a 3-0 loss to Jamestown Community College Saturday. TC3 is now 5-7-1 overall and 5-7 in Region III. Jamestown, the defending regional champions and currently ranked second in the Region III Coaches Poll, improves to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the region.

As a team, TC3 looked out of sync from the start, losing the opener 30-26 before dropping game two 30-18. Game three opened with the Panthers finally showing some life, taking the first lead of the afternoon by scoring the first two points of the game, the first on a kill by Megan Sherman (Owego Free Academy/Owego). The lead grew to three at 7-4 after a trio of service points by Natasha Blauvelt (Dundee HS/Dundee) before things fell apart. Jamestown rallied to tie the game at 8-8, and after trading points to get the game to 12-12, the visitors used a four-point run to take the lead at 16-12. TC3 could get no closer than three the rest of the way, largely due to the inability to string points together, losing 30-19.

Erin Carlson (Randolph HS/Randolph) and Sherman led the attack, with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Blauvelt had a balanced day of 14 assists and nine digs and Jenna Dunkelberger (Dundee HS/Dundee) anchored the defense with a team-high 24 digs.

TC3 looks to rebound with a pair of matches Sunday. The Panthers will take on Erie Community College and Niagara County Community College. The contests will be held in Corning.
