Three Named All-Region

May 24, 2017

Three Tompkins Cortland Community College players have earned spots on the NJCAA Region III all-region team, the most ever in the history of the program. In voting by the coaches in the region, Nicholas Daigle (Warwick Valley H.S./Warwick), Chris Polanco (White Plains H.S./White Plains), and Jonny Phillips (Cortland H.S./Cortland) were each voted to the second team.

Daigle and Polanco were also voted to the Mid-State Athletic Conference all-conference team after tying for the team lead in scoring, each finishing with 51 points.

Phillips, a freshman defender, anchored a defense that was among the stiffest in the region. He and Daigle were also voted to the Region III Championships all-tournament team.

The Panthers have now had representation on the Region III all-region team in four consecutive years and five of the last six years. In each of those years, the national champion has come from Region III.

Four Panthers Named All-MSAC

May 12, 2017

Four Tompkins Cortland Community College players have earned spots on the Mid-State Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse all-conference team. In voting by the coaches from the five MSAC programs, Nicholas Daigle (Warwick Valley H.S./Warwick), Chris Polanco (White Plains H.S./White Plains), Duran Joyce (Dryden H.S./Dryden), and Peter Tortorici (Deer Park H.S./Deer Park) were one of the 20 named to the team. The four represent the most all-conference selections in a year in the history of Tompkins Cortland’s lacrosse program.

Daigle and Polanco tied for the team lead in scoring, each finishing with 51 points. Daigle, a sophomore attacker, had 38 goals and a team-best 13 assists. He scored in every game and had a season-best 10 points against Jefferson Community College. Polanco, a freshman midfielder, also scored in every game and had a season-best six points twice, both times against Hudson Valley Community College.

Joyce, a sophomore midfielder, was fourth on the team in scoring with 27 points. He also had six points for a season high, doing so twice, against Ocean County College and against Finger Lakes Community College. Tortorici, a sophomore attacker, was one of the top face-off specialists in the conference. He also scored four points for the Panthers, including a two-point effort vs. Union County College.

Conference champion Onondaga Community College led all programs with eight all-conference selections. Tompkins Cortland, the conference runner-up, was tied with Finger Lakes Community College for second most selections with four each. SUNY Broome and Jefferson Community College each had two selections.

Coaches–Men's Lacrosse

Zach McMullin

Head Coach

Zach McMullen

Coach McMullin has finished five seasons with the Panthers, including three as head coach. He has been involved in all aspects of the program and has been largely responsible for the growth of the program, which has included playoff appearances three of the last four seasons.

Coach McMullin brings valuable experience as both a player and coach, having been a standout player both in high school and at Tompkins Cortland. During his time in a Panthers uniform he showed a tremendous ability to put the ball in the net, scoring 21 goals in just seven games. As a coach, he exudes the same energy he brought to the field as a player, helping the team and each player reach their potential on and off the field.
