TC3 vs. Broome CC

Dryden—TC3's 13 game win streak came to a halt Thursday when #1 ranked Broome swept a doubleheader from the Panthers, winning the first game 7-4 in extra innings before taking the nightcap 15-6. The losses drop TC3 to 17-4 with four games left on the regular season schedule.

Game one was a tight affair from the start, with both teams going scoreless until the fourth inning when Broome broke on top 2-0 in the top of the frame. TC3 made in 2-1 in the bottom of fourth, and after holding Broome scoreless in the fifth, took the lead with a 2-out, 2-run double by Tiffany Horton (Athens/Athens, PA) in the bottom of the inning. Two runs by Broome in the sixth made it 4-3, but a long solo homer by Carrie Quigley (Southern Cayuga/Locke, NY) tied it at 4 in the bottom of the sixth. Neither team scored in the seventh, sending the Panthers into extra innings for the first time this year. Broome took advantage of the NJCAA rule that starts extra innings with a runner on second to score quickly and pull ahead. By the time the inning was done, Broome had a 7-4 victory. Horton pitched another solid game, striking out 10 in 8 innings while giving up just 4 hits and 3 earned runs.

Broome, ranked #1 in the region and #4 in the nation, started the second game strong with a leadoff homer en route to a 4-run first inning. Despite trailing the entire game, twice the Panthers rallied in the bottom of an inning to keep the game alive. Laura Thomas (South Seneca/Interlaken, NY) had a monster day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Kim Zirbel (Groton/Groton, NY), who pitched six innings in relief, also homered for TC3. Angela Coraci (Union Springs/Auburn, NY) continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-3 and extending her hitting streak to 8 games. Horton went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's and extended her hitting streak to 10 games.
