TC3 at SUNY Canton

Canton—TC3 improved to 3-0 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of SUNY Canton Sunday. The Panthers again showed a flair for the dramatic by coming from behind in both contests. TC3 won the opener 4-2 and the nightcap 9-7.
 
After the long bus ride, TC3 started slowly in the opener. After failing to score in the top of the first, a pair of Panther errors allowed two unearned Canton runs to score. Neither team would cross the plate again until the top of the sixth, when TC3 tied the score with a pair. In the top of the seventh, the visitors pushed two more across, taking the lead for good. Tiffany Horton (Athens/Athens, PA) enjoyed another stellar outing on the mound, going the distance for the win. She struck out five while allowing just three hits and kept her ERA perfect on the season. At the plate, Horton helped her cause by going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Kim Zirbel (Groton/Groton, NY) knocked in two runs as eight Panthers picked up hits. TC3 outhit Canton 9-to-3.
 
The second game started like the first, with Canton scoring two in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. This time, however, TC3 responded with two in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the seventh. Zirbel picked up the win in her collegiate pitching debut, striking out three while throwing a complete game seven-hitter. Zirbel helped her cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Carrie Quigley (Southern Cayuga/ Locke, NY) and Cassidy Rodman (Sherburne-Earlville/Earlville, NY) each scored twice for the winner, while Sheena Adger (East/Rochester, NY) added a double and two RBI's.
