 2012 Highlights
Clermont, Fla.—A strong day at the plate powered the Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team to a pair of wins in Florida Tuesday. The Panthers beat the Indiana Tech University JV 8-1 before overpowering Highland Community College (Ill.) 17-0. Both of Tuesday's opponents are scholarship teams - Indiana Tech is a four-year, NAIA school and Highland is a Division II junior college. With the wins, TC3 improves to 5-1 on the year. The Panthers continue the spring break games Wednesday with a doubleheader against Rainy River Community College (Minn.).
Against Indiana Tech, TC3 was led by two-RBI performances from both Katie Huston (Chenango Valley H.S./Binghamton) and Kaitlyn Massett (C.W. Baker H.S./Syracuse). Pitcher Emilie Rogers (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) continued her hot spring, allowing just three hits while striking out 14 in the complete game win.
The game against Highland opened with a bang. TC3 scored nine in the first two innings to set the tone, and then added an eight-run fourth inning to seal the win. Rogers and Kristan Baker (Dallas H.S./Dallas, Penn.) combined to hold Highland to just one hit while striking out nine in five innings. At the plate, Samijo Scheer (Corning East H.S./Corning) led the way by going 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBI, and three runs scored. Huston and Chelsea Houtenbrink (Waterloo H.S./Waterloo) each had two hits, a double, and three RBI. Baker, Tayler Fravel (Sandy Creek H.S./Sandy Creek), Emily Woodin (Candor H.S./Candor), and Kaitlyn Edsall (Whitney Point H.S./Whitney Point) each also had a pair of hits as a part of TC3's 16-hit attack.
