Panthers Falter in Final Minute

Watertown—A battle between the two teams tied atop the Mid-State Athletic Conference standings came down to the last minute Wednesday in Watertown. The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball team led by one heading into the final minute, but host Jefferson Community College scored nine straight points over a 45-second stretch, including seven at the free throw line, to knock off the Panthers by a final of 83-77. The loss leaves TC3 with an overall record of 9-10 and 5-3 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Jefferson is 12-10 overall and 6-2 in the MSAC, alone in first place.
 
The game featured several runs by both teams, culminating with six lead changes in the final five minutes of play.
 
Jailaan Kinsey (Jamesville-Dewitt H.S./Dewitt) led all scorers with 26 points. Tyrone Clark (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) followed with 16 points and James Tucker (Saratoga Springs H.S./Saratoga Springs) posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
 
TC3 looks to snap its current three-game losing streak at home Saturday against Broome Community College.
