TC3 Hosts Day/Night College Fair October 20

Over 100 Colleges and Universities Represented

DRYDEN, N.Y. – Anyone looking for information about college has a great opportunity coming soon. On Tuesday, October 20, representatives from over 100 colleges and universities will be at Tompkins Cortland Community College for TC3's 26th Annual College Day/Night Program.

The day portion of the program is from noon to 2 p.m. and will be mostly attended by high school students from around the region. The evening session will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Both sessions will take place in the BorgWarner Morse TEC Field House in TC3's athletics facility and are free and open to the public.

Parents and students can ask college and university representatives about campus life, degree programs, course offerings, costs, financial aid, support services for students, entrance requirements, and their faculty.

"This is a chance to learn through personal discussion, not just by studying information in brochures and web sites," said Tom Streb, TC3 assistant director of admissions-external operations, who coordinates the program. "The process of choosing a college takes so much time and research, and programs like this really help students and parent get a great deal of information in a short time. In addition to being a resource for high school students, it's also a chance for TC3 students who want to transfer to gather information about four-year colleges and universities."

Traditionally over 1,500 high school students from around the region attend the program.

CollegeNow@TC3 Hosts Professional Development Conference

Concurrent Enrollment Program Saves Local High School Students Millions of Dollars

DRYDEN, N.Y. – CollegeNow@TC3 will host its first ever program-wide professional development conference Monday, August 24. Nearly 100 participants from more than 25 local school districts will attend the all-day conference on the TC3 main campus in Dryden. The conference will include sessions on specific fields of study led by TC3 faculty as well as general interest workshops.

The CollegeNow concurrent enrollment program allows high school students to earn TC3 credits while taking classes either at their home high school or online. During the 2008-09 academic year, more than 3,000 high school students earned college credits for free through the CollegeNow program. The total number of credits earned was more than 17,500, representing at least $2.3 million in college tuition savings (based on TC3's tuition of $132 per credit).

The classes are taught by high school teachers who are approved by TC3 and work with a college faculty member. In addition to providing a professional development opportunity for the teachers, the conference is a way to strengthen the connection between the college and the partner schools.

"The professional development conference is something we've always wanted to do," says CollegeNow Associate Director Victoria Zeppelin. "The feedback we've received from our high school teachers is that they'd like more contact with the College. We established liaisons (TC3 faculty members who work directly with high school teachers in their field of study) a couple years ago and that has been very successful. The conference will help continue to build the relationship between the College and our partners, plus it will give the high school teachers the chance to meet and network with colleagues from other high schools who are teaching the same courses."

Veteran Hollywood Insider Speaks at TC3

Trumansburg Native Mike Kehoe Returns to Area to Announce Parternship with College

DRYDEN, N.Y. – Mike Kehoe, a veteran writer, producer, and director, will speak at TC3 Friday, July 24. Kehoe, who also has worked as a crew member on several box-office hits, will offer his insight on several aspects of the film industry. The presentation, which is open to the public and of special interest for anyone thinking of pursuing a career in the field, is sponsored by the TC3 communication and media arts program. It will start at 7 p.m. in the TC3 Forum and will include opportunities for questions from the audience.

Kehoe, a 1977 graduate of Charles O. Dickerson High School in Trumansburg, is looking to develop projects by Ithaca film makers. He also hopes to assist students from TC3 that have a desire to pursue a career in film making, through internships, jobs, and his extensive list of contacts at various studios. "This is a wonderful opportunity for our students," said TC3 instructor of communication and media arts Christine Guest. "To be able to hear someone with his credentials speak to them on our campus is significant, but to have him offer to collaborate with our program and help our students get into the field is simply incredible. We couldn't be more excited."

Kehoe's career in Hollywood began as an assistant to Sylvester Stallone in the 1985 film "Rocky IV." He then worked as an assistant to writer Kevin Elder and director Sidney Furie on the 1986 film "Iron Eagle" before working on a number of independent features. In 1994, he formed Taughannock Entertainment and wrote, produced, and directed his first short film. "Second Dance" was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival, premiering at Sundance and the Berlin Film Festival. He wrote and directed the feature film "Dominion" in 1995, followed by producing and directing more short films, including "The Dark Agent," which was accepted to the 2004 Comic Con Film Festival.

Kehoe has worked closely with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Tom Cruise on "Jerry Maguire," "Mission: Impossible II," "Vanilla Sky," "The Last Samurai," "Collateral," and "Valkyrie." While working on the crew of "Mission: Impossible III" he secured a deal with Paramount and The Food Network to write, produce, and direct the special "Catering Impossible," featuring the cast of the feature film.

Most recently, he worked with director J.J. Abrams on this year's hit "Star Trek." In all, Kehoe has worked on over 70 films across the United States as well as in New Zealand, Japan, China, Israel, and Mexico.
