![]() TC3 Library Interlibrary LoanInterlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service we provide when we obtain materials from other libraries. Although we try our best to get the items as soon as possible, it is best to plan ahead at least two weeks. Items not in the TC3 Library can be located in the SUNY Union Catalog or WorldCat. New Interlibrary Loan SystemWe use an ILL system known as ILLiad. The forms are quick to fill out and the system enables you to track your requests and maintain records of items you have received. An additional enhancement is that you'll be able to receive journal articles electronically. In order to use ILLiad, you need to register to create your account. Once you have created an account you should request books through the SUNY Union Catalog or WorldCat. Articles may be requested directly from databases or you may use the blank form provided within your account. To learn more you may wish to read Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about ILLiad. PoliciesYour TC3 Card is required when you pick up Interlibrary loan items at the Library Services Desk. We will notify you through your TC3 E-mail account when your item arrives. Loan Charges: Most requests are filled without a charge. If the lending library indicates that there will be a charge for the item you wish to borrow, the TC3 Library will contact you regarding the amount and procedure for payment. You will have the opportunity to decide if you wish to proceed with the request. Limits: We reserve the right to limit requests depending on the number of items requested, the time of year, and the extent of the library's own collection. Copyright rules prohibit the library requesting more than one article from the same issue of a periodical in a calendar year. Renewals: Renewal of borrowed materials is often possible, but requests for renewals should be made well before the due date. The lending library may decline a renewal request. Dissertations: - Dissertations are generally not available for Interlibrary Loan but may be purchased from UMI Dissertation Publishing or via PQDT Open which "provides the full text of open access dissertations and theses free of charge." Another helpful resource is Google Scholar. Copyright Law and WarningLaw: The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Other information on copyright is available on the Educational Technology Services’s page Guide for Copying Materials and Applying Fair Use Guidelines. Conditions for Use: Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." Fair Use: If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. Restrictions: The TC3 Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. Questions: Questions related to Interlibrary Loan policies or procedures should be directed to Lucy Yang at ext. 4361. Last update: Friday, May 22, 2009 |
