At the beginning

 

When installing the upgrade, place the disk in the computer. 

It should start automatically, and you should see the following:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


If this does not appear automatically, click on your Start button and select Run. 

Enter the following into the Open box:

 

              D:\setup

 

where D is the letter of your hard drive.

After installing

you will find the following link on your desktop:

 

 

When you open this for the first time, you will need to enter your name and the name of the Domino server.  Here you should enter the following:

 

              BufMail01.sln.suny.edu/sln

 

When you are finished entering the necessary information, you will see a screen that says:

 

              "Notes 6 Setup

                  Just a few easy steps . . . "

 

followed by 3 buttons labeled with a one, a two, and a checkmark.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


At this point you should click
 on the "databases" icon on the side bar: 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Now right-click on the "Workspace" option:

 

 

and select the "Set Bookmark as home page" option. 

You should now see the familiar Lotus Notes workspace.

 

 

 

 

 

Setting up your new course(s)

  1. Open your Mail.

  2. On or about November 2, 2003, you should find a button with the following Subject Heading:

    Add SLN Download Manager.to your Workspace

  3. Open this message and scroll down to the button that says:

    Add Download Manager to your Workspace

  4. Click on this button.

  5. Close your Mail.

  6. Note the new icon with the letters "DM",
    and double-click on it.

 



 

  1. Click on the appropriate semester and course(s) to download your databases.

  2. When you close the Download Manager you should see your new courses
    on your Worksheet.

 

Using the tabs

 

  1. Each time you open a document, you will find a tab for that document near the top of the Window.

  2. You can quickly move from one document to another by clicking on these tabs.

 

 

Closing a document

 

  1. Locate the tab for the document, and note the 'X' on the tab.

  2. Click on the 'X' to close the document.  (You can also press the 'Esc' button on the keyboard, as before.)

 

 


The Replication Page

 

If you look for the replication page, you will find that there is no longer a tab for it.  Instead, to get to the Replication Page, you now need to click on this button on the sidebar:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Viewing more than a single document at once

 

  1. Open the documents.

  2. Right click on the tab of one of the documents, and select:

    Open in New Window

 

 

Setting your permanent pen

 

  1. When in editing mode, open the Text menu and select:

    Test Properties

  2. Select the characteristics that you wish for your Permanent Pen.

  3. Open the Text menu again and select

    Permanent Pen / Set Permanent Pen option.

 

Creating a link to a Web site

 

  1. Go to the site in your browser.

 

  1. Select the site's address with your mouse,
    and press
    [Ctrl] [C] on your keyboard to copy the text.

 

  1. Go to your Notes document.

 

  1. In editing mode, type the text that you wish for the link to show.

 

  1. Select the text that you typed, open the Create menu and select:

 

Hotspot / Link hotspot

 

  1. Next to the term "Type" you should see:

 

URL

 

  1. Click in the field next to the term "Value".

  2. Press [Ctrl] [V] on your keyboard to paste the Web address into this field.

 

  1. Close the Link hotspot box.

 

  1. After saving and replicating,
    check the page on the Web to make sure that the link works.
