 Downloading and Using WS_FTP Light

Instructions for Downloading WS_FTP Light
- Go to the IPSWITCH website
- Click on the "Service and Support" button near the upper-right hand corner of the page (you need not select any of the options).
- Click on the "WS_FTP LE" link.
- At the bottom of the page, click on the following link:
- "Current Version: WS_FTP LE 5.08"
- You should now scroll down to fill in the brief form on this page. Here you will need to select the "Download WS_FTP LE" option and fill in your e-mail address. (Do not check the "Download WS_FTP Pro Evaluation" option). Then click on the "Next" button.
(Make sure that you select Individual as the User Type)
- In the "download" column, click on one of the 95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2000 links.
- You will now be prompted to download the file. You should save it onto your Desktop. After the file has been downloaded, you can double-click the icon on your desktop to set up the software.
Instructions for Using WS_FTP
You will need your User ID and Password in order to fill out the login connection form as shown below. This form is what you will see when you open WS_FTP.
PART A
- Look in the lower left-hand corner of the Window.
- If you see this button: click on it:

It will change to this button:
- Now click on the
button.
- You should see a dialogue box titled, "Session Properties". Click the "New" button on this box, and fill out the form as follows:
| Profile Name: | Any identifier that you wish to use. This can be any term that you will recognize as representing this connection (eg: TC3). |
| Host Name Address: | www.acad.sunytccc.edu |
| Host Type: | Leave this as "Automatic detect" |
| User ID: | Provided by Ed. Tech. Services |
| Password: | You can leave this blank. You will be prompted for it later. It is provided by Ed. Tech. Services. |
| Account: | Leave blank. |
| Comment: | Leave blank. |
| "Anonymous" box: | There should not be a checkmark here. |
PART B
- After filling out the above form, click on the "OK" button. You will then be prompted to enter your password, which will be provided to you during the first week of class in your Online Office Hours.
- In a short time you should be connected to the Academic Web Server. If your computer uses audio, you will probably hear something that sounds like a brief car honk. The lower left hand corner of the window should say, "Transfer Complete".
- You will now see a representation of your local drives, folders, and files in the left pane of the window. Locate your saved HTML here.
You will need to know where you saved your file so that you can locate it.
If you saved your file on your Desktop, you can enter, "C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP" in the "Local System" box in the upper left hand corner of WS_FTP. You should then find the file in the left hand pane of the window.
- You can now select your file from the left-hand pane, and click the right arrow symbol to transfer the selected file to your Website folder. This is called an upload.
Note that you can also transfer file(s) down from the web server to your local system (download). You can also rename files, delete files, etc.
- When you are finished, disconnect by clicking on the Close button
When you are disconnected, close the program.
