Preparing For/Beginning College Courses Which Require "Academic" English

At TC3, we have spent years developing our expertise in ESOL instruction for students who wish to take college courses. Many of our ESOL graduates transfer to well known universities throughout the United States, such as Cornell University, and the State University of New York.

TC3 offers nine levels of English from advanced beginner to the final course prior to the academic writing course required by all universities throughout the United States. Each level is earns four college credits, and provides 60 hours of instruction in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The ESOL classes are limited to 12 students and are taught by experienced and caring faculty. Although the classes are intensive, teachers provide students with a great deal of individualized attention and support.

ESOL classes at TC3 have a strong academic focus. At the intermediate levels, students are introduced to academic materials, while at the advanced levels, learning activities center on developing academic English language skills by using actual academic materials. Listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are integrated in each of the courses. Professional ESOL tutors are available free of charge at the Baker Center for Learning on TC3’s campus.

Most college courses at TC3 require you to have completed ENGL 101, Academic Writing, before you register for the course. Some do not, which allows some ESOL students to attend full-time.
