Advising Student-Athletes

Advising student-athletes is just a bit more complex than advising any student who is not involved in athletics. One issue is scheduling of classes. All student athletes are encouraged to have all classes conclude by 1 p.m. daily. We also strongly recommend that each student athlete carries 15 credits or more whenever possible. Athletes must maintain a 12-credit load per semester to maintain eligibility for participation in athletics. Enrolling in 15 credits allows the student room to withdraw from up to three credits without losing eligibility. Pre-college level courses, such as RDNG 099, will count toward the credit load.

Athletes sign a waiver allowing advisors and instructors to give coaches information about attendance and academic progress. As an advisor, you may be asked to supply some of this information to the athletic department.
