Admissions at TC3

TC3 is fully accredited by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Copies of these documents are on file in the Office of the President.

Students who wish to pursue a degree program must apply for admission. Applications are available by contacting the admissions office. Those students who have been accepted to the College are termed “matriculated." You must be matriculated to receive financial aid.

Although the College, in general, has an open door admissions policy, admission to the nursing program is selective. Admissions decisions are made by members of the Nursing faculty working together with the admissions officer. Admissions decisions are based on high school or college grade average (whichever is more recent), grades in required science and math courses, and a personal statement of application. An interview and/or entrance exam may be required.

Applicants whose country of citizenship is not the United States must submit an International Student Application. Contact the director of admissions to receive this application.

The admissions office evaluates your credentials on a "rolling" basis, which means that you will be notified of your admission status upon receipt of a completed application. The College recommends that you complete either the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) as an aid to course placement.

Please submit a copy of your high school transcript with your application. If you have a high school equivalency diploma, submit your diploma and scores in addition to the high school transcript. The College also accepts transfer credits earned at other accredited colleges. Official transcripts must be provided from all colleges attended.

In keeping with the established goals and mission of the College, admission to TC3 is offered without unlawful regard to applicants' race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Students who hold or will hold a high school diploma prior to enrollment will be offered admission to the College. However, certain curricula, such as nursing, require specific academic credentials. Admission to these programs will be based upon an evaluation of the applicant's credentials or special achievements to date.

Tompkins Cortland enrollment is approximately 3,000, divided evenly between full- and part-time students (full-time is defined as enrollment in twelve or more credit hours). Classes are offered both day and evening, with evening classes held on campus and at several extension centers in the area.
