Career Development

What kind of job do I want? What kind of job would I be good at? What is a particular job like? What will the job demand of me? How much will it pay? What kind of training is needed? How hard will it be to get one of these jobs?

There are lots of questions we are faced with when trying to figure out “what am I going to do when I grow up?”

How can you learn more about different careers?

  • Ask people about their jobs.
  • Try a personality test or interest inventory to see what careers might be a good match for you.
  • Learn more about the career through hands-on experience: volunteer, job shadow, intern, or work part-time.
  • Look for resources in your local library or online.
  • Take classes at your school, BOCES, or community college that relate to an area of interest.
