Program Desription

Overview

Tech Prep is a federally funded program designed to ease the transition between high school and college or the workforce.  We help schools incorporate up-to-date skills and rigorous academics into career-related or technical courses.  All of our programs offer opportunities for high school students to earn college credit, either through concurrent enrollment or by taking online courses through CollegeNow Online.

The Tech Prep program is built around four critical components:

  • Career exploration and planning for all students.
  • Support and development of “hands-on” curriculum for high school and college students – students are proven to learn more effectively when they see the “real world” application of ideas.
  • Connecting high school and college curriculum in career-related programs.  Whenever possible, this includes creating agreements between high schools and colleges that allow students to earn college credit while they’re in high school.
  • Supporting and encouraging high school students to enroll in college programs related to their career interests.

About 650 students are enrolled in Tech Prep through participation in a career and technical education program at their high school or BOCES.  Our impact stretches beyond these students, however, due to Tech Prep’s ongoing support of faculty professional development, applied math and science courses, college and career-related events and field trips, concurrent enrollment, and grants for classroom supplies.
