Dryden High SchoolPrograms OfferedMore programs are available at the Career Tech Center at TST BOCES • BusinessProgram Teacher: Linda Bruno, Jill Weiss Description: All juniors and seniors completing a business sequence are eligible to take up to three courses at TC3, tuition-free, if they qualify. Most business courses are also Concurrent Enrollment courses so students earn high school and TC3 credit at the same time. TC3 credits are transferable to most colleges, including the entire SUNY system. In addition, there is a two-year Tech Prep Business capstone program, though students may elect to take just the first year of that program. The Tech Prep Business capstone program is designed to help students prepare for careers in today’s “high tech” economy and prepare for college. In the first year, a typical schedule includes class time, interactions with the community and business professionals, and seminars at central locations. Qualifying Tech Prep students may earn additional credit each year for approved work site training and completion of related activities. Course content involves using Microsoft Word, Microsoft publisher, Microsoft Powerpoint, and other software. The Internet, e-mail, fax, digital cameras and scanners are used for class activities and team projects. Students create resumes and job applications, record business documentation, develop time management skills, and apply work site etiquette. A mentor at the work site, the classroom teacher, and the student complete a training agreement. Students who plan to enroll in business courses related to their work site and career goal will have many opportunities to develop college and career skills. Prerequisite: Keyboarding/ communications. During the second year of the Tech Prep capstone program, students will focus on enhancing their skills to prepare for the professional business world and entry into college. Students will have various opportunities to advance their skills be applying leadership abilities helping others learn, organizing/hosting seminars, planning/giving presentations and workshops, attending conferences, learning computer software, using technology and planning a recognition ceremony. Seminars and the Internet will offer cooperative activities with the students from other school. Qualifying Tech Prep students may earn an additional credit for approved work-site training and completion of related activities. Student, work-site mentor and classroom teacher complete the training agreement. Prerequisite: Business Tech Prep 1. Concurrent Enrollment courses available in the business program: Accounting, Business Math, Business Law, College Success, Computer Applications (Keyboarding, Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Desktop Management), Cooperative Work Experience, and Principles of Marketing. For more information• Project Lead the WayTeacher: Sue Gilcher Description: These are applied science laboratory courses designed for students who are preparing for careers that range from technicians to engineering to scientists. This program is part of the 2+2 Tech Prep program coordinated with TC3. Students may qualify for tuition-free courses at TC3. When Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is taken for two years (2 units) up to three TC3 courses may be taken tuition-free. Some courses are Concurrent Enrollment (Architectural Drafting, Digital Electronics), meaning that they earn high school and TC3 credit at the same time. These college credits are transferable to most colleges, including all SUNY schools. Students completing a technology sequence may be eligible for a waiver of the foreign language requirement. PLTW courses consist of lectures, laboratories, demonstrations, and small group engineering projects.
