![]() Tech Prep Program Description
Teachers and Guidance CounselorsHow do I get involved in Tech Prep? One of the easiest ways to get involved with Tech Prep is to attend one of our workshops. Workshops are announced through flyers, BOCES E-mail, and on our web site. In addition, Tech Prep offers curriculum-writing opportunities for teachers – if you would like to apply, you should contact the Tech Prep director. Finally, Tech Prep offers special projects in the spring each year – teachers who have an idea for developing a contextual or applied course, who want to create a two-plus-two program with TC3, or who want to start a work experience program are encouraged to apply. You are also welcome to contact Victoria Zeppelin, Tech Prep Director, to learn more about the program and how to get involved. What are the benefits of being involved in Tech Prep?Tech Prep supports teachers by offering them paid professional development opportunities. We also pay teachers to develop new contextual/applied curriculum. Some Tech Prep grant money can be used to provide technology for the contextual classroom. Tech Prep offers strategies to make you and your students more successful in the classroom. What types of Tech Prep courses are offered? This varies by school. Each school has its own program and variations of a general program (i.e. business, technology). Visit the Participating Schools page for more information. This does not mean that because your school doesn't offer a program you cannot create an articulation agreement to teach it. We also support core-curriculum classes by helping teachers to develop contextual/applied curriculum. Several high schools in the area offer Tech Prep math, biology and physics. Do students have to fill out any forms when they enroll?Yes, they need to fill out an enrollment form. What is a Career Pathway? This is a way that students can plan their future education. They figure out ahead of time what college classes to take in high school to allow them to get an advanced start on a college degree. This helps eliminate wasted classes at the high school level that do not transfer to college. What is a Concurrent Enrollment course?A Concurrent Enrollment course is a TC3 course taught at the college level by high school teachers. Teachers are approved to teach the course by college faculty and students receive actual college credit for the course. How can I apply for Concurrent Enrollment? At TC3 there is an application process to receive Concurrent Enrollment approval. Contact Renae Moore for more information. What data forms do I need to have my Tech Prep students complete? The data forms give us information about the students that we submit with the Tech Prep Grant.
