Dual Credit becomes Concurrent Enrollment

December 11, 2007

DRYDEN, N.Y. — CollegeNow is announcing a name change. Our "Dual Credit Program" will now be known as the "Concurrent Enrollment Program". There are several reasons for implementing this change in terminology:

  • In New York state virtually all the other community colleges use the term "concurrent enrollment" for their programs that offer college classes, taught by approved high school teachers, in partner high schools. The students who take these classes are concurrently enrolled in high school and college.
  • Nationally, "concurrent enrollment" is the more widely used term for these programs.
  • Since we are in the process of applying for accreditation of our program by NACEP (National Alliance for Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships), it makes sense for us to transition to using the appropriate terminology.

We know that there will be a period of adjustment, for all of us, as we transition to the new terminology, so we wanted to let everyone know that this transition is beginning now.
