The space shuttle is full of astronauts, so it stands to reason somebody’s got to be willing to tell you they have the dream of becoming an astronaut. Blaze Sanders will tell you that, and you can see in his face he’s not kidding, or just dreaming outsized dreams.
“I plan on transferring to Clarkson,” he says. “… Getting a dual degree, and becoming an astronaut. That’s the plan.”
He has it mapped out, too.
“Hopefully I’ll have an internship through NASA,” he says. “Working somewhere in the lower levels. And then you apply for astronaut training. … You just go from there. It’s pretty selective.”
Sanders, who is a tutor in the Baker Center for Learning, says he initially came to TC3 to study chemical engineering, because “they make the most money,” he says.
“But I’ve learned that I really like electrical engineering. That’s why I’ve actually decided to get a dual degree. We had to make a little electrical hovercraft in one of our classes, so that turned me on to electrical engineering.”
And Sanders, who might have gone to Duke University were it not for some bad timing, says TC3 has helped to nurture and develop his interests in a comfortable, small environment.
“I love this small atmosphere (at TC3),” he says. “That’s why I want transfer to Clarkson, as well, because it’s a small school. I like the one-on-one with the teacher.”
