Professor Swinnich earned her B. S. from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., where she completed both a physics and mathematics major. She also has an M.S. from Cornell University in Physics.
She has lived in Central New York since August of 1980 and has taught at TC3 since August of 1983.
At TC3, she has taught various courses in physics, electrical technology, engineering, and mathematics. She also worked for one year as a Student Success Coordinator and currently serves as Faculty Advisement Liaison. Janet has a great interest in helping students succeed, so she has also taught a few freshman seminar courses.
In 2009, Janet received an Exemplary Leadership Award from the Chair Academy for her work with student success initiatives at TC3.
Her top five themes of talent (per StrengthsQuest) are WOO, Individualization, Input, Arranger, and Developer. In recent years, she has also taken a leading role in promoting talent and strengths development among students and staff. In this role, she assists people in using the results of Gallup’s StrengthsFinder inventory and applying the strengths philosophy to their studies, work, and lives.
