 GED Eligibility Requirements
The GED test can be administered to any person who has lived in New York state for at least one month prior to the test date AND:
- Is 19 years of age or over on the day of testing;
AND:
- has not graduated from an accredited high school; *
- has not received a high school equivalency certificate or diploma; *
- is not currently enrolled in a regular high school; *
- has not previously earned a score on the GED tests sufficient to qualify for a high school equivalency certificate or diploma. *
- Is 17 or 18 years old on the day of testing;
AND:
- one year has passed since he/she reached maximum compulsory school attendance age and last enrolled in a regular full time high school program of instruction; OR
- was a member of a high school class that has already graduated; OR
- is enrolled in an approved Alternative High School Equivalency Preparation Program; OR
- has applied to the U.S. Armed Forces, college, university or an accredited post-secondary institution; OR
- is a participant in a Job Corps program; OR
- is a resident confined to a narcotics addiction control center, Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) facility, jail or Department of Correctional Services (DOCS) facility, or is a patient in a hospital in the State of New York; OR
- is an adjudicated youth under the direction of a prison, jail, detention center, parole or probation officer.
