Accounting is one of the largest fields of professional employment. Accountants specialize in auditing, tax work, cost accounting, budgeting, and systems and procedures, in the public and private sectors. The A.A.S. degree lets you begin your career immediately upon graduation. Although it is not designed for transfer, some students do transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

Career Opportunities

Typical positions filled by recent accounting graduates fall in the areas of accounting, budget analysis, controlling, financial analysis, billing, public accounting, and management.

Graduates of the accounting program have been placed with many area firms, including Borg-Warner Automotive; Ciaschi, Dietershagen, Little, and Mikelson; Cornell University; Cortland Memorial Hospital; Monarch Machine Tool Co.; Pall Trinity Micro Corporation; The CBORD Group, Inc.; Tompkins County; and Tompkins Trust Company.
