More changes on campus
New smart classrooms to feature solar power
On the heels of the $34 million transformation of the TC3 campus, the College also received funding to add nine new “smart” classrooms on the west side of the building. The rooms are fully equipped with wireless Internet capability, ceiling-mounted projection, and more. And by the time TC3’s new smart classrooms are completed this fall, staff, students, and faculty will notice a solar array outside of the building, associated with the classrooms.
According to Director of Facilities James Turner, there are 10 cells in the array, each capable of producing 200 watts at maximum solar incidence. At full output, the array will produce enough power to provide the lighting for six of the nine new classrooms.
There is no storage planned for the array as all of the power will be consumed on site as it is generated since the load of the building is greater than the output.
Turner says there are other opportunities for solar applications on campus. Solar heating and water heating is a consideration and additional opportunities for photovoltaics will be evaluated as the opportunity arrives. The primary consideration is to look at opportunities to reduce consumption of electricity and natural gas to the greatest practical degree and add alternative energy sources to reduce our carbon footprint.
TC3 Eatery expanding
With two new residence halls coming online in the fall of 2009, bringing to total number of beds at TC3 to more than 800, the need for expanded meal service was recognized this past year. In conjunction with American Food and Vending, which operates the TC3 Eatery, the eatery area is expanding by adding just fewer than 2,000-square-feet of space, and also offering meal plans for residential students this fall.
Grad Reception
The TC3 Alumni Association hosted the seventh annual Graduate Reception on May 14, 2010. The event was a celebration of all 2010 graduates which highlights those who excelled in their program both academically and personally.

Class of 2008 Profile
The annual Graduate Survey was administered to 458 individuals who graduated from Tompkins Cortland Community College in August 2007, December 2007 and May 2008. Those graduates (37) with an address outside the United States were not contacted. The information in this report is based upon the 325 responses we received, or 71 percent of the surveyed group.
This report is produced annually by Institutional Research in coordination with Counseling, Career and Transfer Services. Institutional Research lists this and other reports on their Reports & Surveys page.
Inside Counts
Ever wonder who lives in our residence halls? Well, Institutional Research at TC3 collects and analyzes that along with many other interesting factoids. TC3 looks at reports like this to help better serve our students. To find out, check out IR’s newletter, Inside Counts. You can also check out other great statistics on IR’s web site.
