Alumni Spotlight: Paul McCabe

Paul McCabePaul McCabe is our next feature in a continuing series of alumni profiles. He is a Liberal Arts and Science-General Studies graduate of the class of 2002. He continues with TC3 as an adjunct instructor. In addition, he is an accomplished playwright and musician.

We asked him five questions about himself, his life and his experiences with TC3. The following are his answers.

Please tell us about yourself.

In 2002, I graduated from TC3 with a degree in General Studies with Highest Academic Honors and membership in Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). My degree led to a transfer to Ithaca College (IC), where I majored in English and minored in Writing. In May 2004, I graduated from IC with a hard-earned 3.75 GPA.

What are you doing now?

I was excited and honored to teach English 101 this past summer at TC3. This fall, I will be teaching more English classes at TC3 while doing graduate study at Binghamton University in English/Creative Writing.

To-date what is your biggest accomplishment?

As a newly graduated, returning college student, I feel that switching to the other side of the desk within weeks of graduation was a rewarding accomplishment (I hope my students agree). As a writer, I have been humbled by the success of my play "Get Off" which was staged in the spring of 2004 at Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland and is in the process of being reviewed by local and national theatre projects and various contests.

What is your fondest memory of TC3?

Of many fond memories I hold from TC3, my experience as a tutor ranks among the best. Only in that one-on-one learning environment can we really learn about each other as interesting and inquisitive human beings.

Who were your favorite professors?

TC3 is loaded with exceptional professors, staff and administrators. I truly miss my (almost daily) conversations with Jeanne Cameron (sociology professor), sometimes we just talked about politics, other times we talked about politics but most of the time we just talked about politics.

Other comments, thoughts?

I’ve seen that the new logo at TC3 is "Just Think". How true this is. I would have never thought on a cold January morning (my first day of class) in 2000 that I would be back here at TC3 (circa 2004) as a teacher, peer, grad student and aspiring writer. Over the years, I have witnessed TC3’s commitment toward stimulating intellectual challenges while cultivating the minds of our shrinking global community. As I stated earlier, I am honored to be part of the TC3 family.

Remember, it is NEVER to late to return to school. Strive to improve and challenge yourselves daily. Start slow, try auditing a class and take a subject you really love. Getting back into the "college" groove will become so much easier, and TC3 is the place to do it.
