Chris Julian

Class of 2004

Title: adjunct professor at TC3
Background: Chris Julian is a graduate of Binghamton University, and, following that degree, a 2004 graduate of TC3. He owns his own video production and editing business, Chris Julian Designworks, where he works on feature-length films, documentary films, and other projects. Julian also is an adjunct professor at TC3, teaching video editing and design.

You had a bachelor’s degree before you came to TC3?  I did, in film. But the technology was obsolete six or seven years after my graduation. I found I was not competitive with other people in the field.

So what did you study at TC3 to get up-to-date? Communication and media arts. I tailored the program to fit my own needs. I knew what I wanted to get out of the experience, and I tailored my time here very closely – I took exactly the courses I wanted to take.

Describe your connection with the department and with your professors. I made a number of very good contacts here. In the time since I finished my degree here, I’ve remained closely in touch with a number of professors: e-mailing, calling. I’ve gotten many, many references from professors at TC3.

And now you’re back at TC3. Yes. I teach advanced video editing, film aesthetics, and, last semester, mass media. Funny thing: The final project for one of the classes I took at TC3 was the first chapter of a feature-length film I made (Invisible Ink, see www.christopherjulian.com/ for more information), and know I’m teaching that class.
