Sandy Eldred

Class of 1990

Title: Secretary to faculty at TC3
Hometown: Groton
Background: Sandy Eldred has been secretary to faculty at TC3 since 1994 after working at Essex Structural Steel Co., Inc. in Cortland. She is a familiar face in the east side faculty wing, assisting students, faculty, and staff throughout the day.

You came to TC3 as a non-traditional student in 1990. What were you doing prior to that time? I was milking cows in Groton City. I was out there at 3:30 in the morning, every day, milking. When I was in high school, we weren’t encouraged to go on. But TC3 made a point of showing you that you could.

No snow days on the farm? Oh no. It helps you appreciate what you have being here at TC3.

You worked at Essex Steel. What brought you back to TC3? No left turns. (Sandy laughs, “I’ve always told people I would never miss the left turns in traffic at Essex … .”) Really though, when I was a student here I thought how nice it would be to work here. I felt I could talk to anybody, everybody is so friendly.

And things have changed here since you’ve been a student, and since you’ve been an employee. It’s amazing all that’s been done. I can’t believe it, looking down into the learning commons and seeing the students walking around.

What’s the best part of your job? Seeing the students, faculty, and anybody else who walks through the door. It’s never boring. I like seeing the students who come back, too. It’s nice to see how they’re doing.
