Siracusa Named All Region

Tompkins Cortland Community College's Anthony Siracusa (Auburn H.S./Auburn) has been voted to the NJCAA Region III baseball all-region team. Siracusa, who also was named the Mid-State Athletic Conference player of the year, is the first TC3 baseball player ever named first-team all region. Voting for the all-region team was done by coaches from the 17 teams in Region III. Siracusa, a liberal arts and sciences-general studies major, led the team with a .443 batting average and tied for the team lead with 17 doubles. As a pitcher, he tied for the team lead with four wins and was second with an ERA of 4.70. He added a team-best 43 strikeouts.

Panthers Dominate All-MSAC Honors

The Mid-State Athletic Conference all-conference baseball team has a decided TC3 feel to it. The 15-member team includes five Panthers, and the conference player of the year and the coach of the year are also from TC3. Sophomore Anthony Siracusa (Auburn H.S./Auburn) was voted the top player in the conference. He was joined on the team by classmates Dan Zambito (Auburn H.S./Auburn), Dustin Quick (Candor H.S./Candor), and Lane Warner (Fabius-Pompey H.S./Cuyler) and freshman Dustin Sandberg (Lambrick Park H.S./Victoria, B.C.). Head coach Pat Carroll earned coach of the year honors as voted on by the coaches from the six conference teams.

Siracusa, Zambito, and Quick were repeat all-MSAC selections. Siracusa, a liberal arts and sciences-general studies major, led the team with a .443 batting average and tied for the team lead with 17 doubles. As a pitcher, he tied for the team lead with four wins and was second with an ERA of 4.70. He added a team-best 43 strikeouts.

Zambito, a liberal arts and sciences-general studies major, was second on the team in hitting with a .368 average. He had a team-high 53 hits, including 17 doubles, and drove in 30 runs from the second spot in the batting order. A team co-captain, he led the team in assists while anchoring the middle infield.

Quick, a business administration major, was the prototypical lead-off hitter. He hit .333 with 37 walks and an on-base percentage of .485. He set team records with 29 stolen bases (in 30 attempts) and 48 runs scored.

Warner, a sophomore transfer from Binghamton University, was a force on the mound, recording a record of 4-0 in five appearances. He was the top vote-getter among pitchers, leading TC3 with a 2.36 ERA.

Sandberg, a recreation leadership major, hit .338 with a team-best 47 RBI in 44 games. He was third on the team with 48 hits, including team-highs of five home runs and six triples.

Carroll just finished his fourth season with the Panthers. He took over a new program and has steadily improved the team each year, going from eight wins the first year to 20 this year. The team went 12-6 against MSAC teams this year, the best record of any conference team. The Panthers also qualified for the NJCAA playoffs for the first time in the program's history.
