Athlete of the Week

Each week during the sports seasons, TC3 recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of a student athlete.

Kenechi Martins, Men's Basketball

February 6

Kenechi (Samuel J. Tilden H.S./Brooklyn) had the biggest game of his season Saturday, helping the Panthers to an important conference win over Broome. Martins came off the bench to score 22 points, including 12 on 4-for-6 shooting from three-point range. He pulled down seven rebounds, also a season high, as TC3 snapped a three-game conference skid. The win helped the Panthers move back into a tie for first place in the conference.

Tyrone Clark, Men's Basketball

January 23

Tyrone (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) helped the Panthers remain perfect in conference play. In wins over Corning and Onondaga, he averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals and 2.5 assists. In five conference games this season, he is averaging 17.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, and leads the team with 15 steals and 8 blocks.

Keisha McBean, Women's Basketball

January 16

Athlete of the Week Keisha McBeanKeisha (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) led the women to a big conference win over Broome this week. The freshman scored a game-high 22 points as the Panthers rallied for the 56-54 victory. She also had 16 points and six assists in the Jefferson game, and seven points, five steals, and four rebounds in the Finger Lakes game. for the year she is third on the team in scoring and tops in assists and steals per game.

Y-Nasia Adams, Women's Basketball

December 5

Athlete of the Week Y-Nasia AdamsJailaan (Jamesville-Dewitt H.S./Dewitt) and Y-Nasia (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) share the final TC3 Athlete of the Week honors for the fall semester. Jailaan helped the men's team win the Tarantelli Classic, scoring 10 points in the opener against Cumberland and then pouring in 28 in the championship game against Corning. Earlier in the week he scored 19 in a loss to Herkimer. For the season he is averaging 14.6 points and 4.3 assists per game. Y-Nasia also had a big week, posting a pair of double-doubles. On Wednesday she posted 10 points and 10 rebounds against Herkimer. She followed that up with a 18-points and six-rebounds effort against Corning on Friday, and ended the week by leading the Panthers to a win over Cumberland with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She is averaging 14.3 and 8.7 rebounds per game this year.

James Tucker, Men's Basketball

November 21

James (Saratoga Springs H.S./Saratoga Springs) tied his career-high with a strong effort in Sunday's win over SUNY Adirondack. James scored 13 points, including ten in a key 19-4 run in the first half that put the lead out of reach. He added six rebounds, one shy of his career best.

Jamell Walker, Men's Basketball

November 14

Jamell (Mount Vernon H.S./Mount Vernon) had a monster weekend for the home team at the TC3 Panther Classic. On Saturday he went off for 28 points and 14 rebounds, including 22 points and 11 rebounds in the second half as the Panthers almost rallied back for a win. On Sunday, Jamell played a major role in another TC3 rally, this one ending with a Panther win. This time he finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals in the 74-70 win over Cayuga. For the season he is averaging a double-double of 15.2 points and 11 rebounds per game.

Angela Halliday, Women's Soccer

October 24

Athlete of the Week Angela HallidayAngela (Newark Valley H.S./Newark Valley) earned TC3 Athlete of the Week honors for the second time thanks to another big week of scoring. Against Onondaga, she scored the game-tying goal late in the second half helping the Panthers to a come-from-behind 2-1 win. In the playoff game with Clinton, she set the tone with a goal in the first minute of play. She found the net again in the Clinton game, giving her three goals in two games this week.

Audrey Cullen, Volleyball

October 17

Athlete of the Week Audrey CullenAudrey (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) put her name in the TC3 record books this week. During the team's weekend match with Alfred State College, Cullen recorded her 345th career kill, the most ever by a Panther. She added three more and ended the weekend with 348 for her career and 182 for this season. She eclipsed the career record established by Lindsey McCutcheon from 2007-08.

Team Defense, Women's Soccer

October 10

Athlete of the Week TC3 Women's Soccer DefenseThe TC3 women's soccer team's defense had another outstanding week. Goalkeeper Samijo Scheer (Corning East H.S./Corning) set the TC3 career shutout record as the Panthers blanked Delhi and Jefferson. The defense, anchored by Scheer, Paige McCarthy (Marathon H.S./Marathon), Sierra Verburg (Red Creek H.S./Red Creek), Kelsey Faberzak (Cortland H.S./Cortland), and Kelsey Fitzsimons (James I. O'Neill H.S./Highland Falls) has posted seven shutouts during the team's current 11-game winning streak.

Angela Halliday, Women's Soccer

October 3

Athlete of the Week Angela HallidayAngela (Newark Valley H.S./Newark Valley) continued her strong play this week. She scored two goals in the win over Cayuga, and added another score in the shutout of Genesee. She now has eight goals this season (second on the team) and four assists (tied for the team lead).

Edem Wemene, Men's Soccer

September 26

Athlete of the Week Edem WemeneEdem (Nottingham H.S./Syracuse) had a big week as the Panthers went 2-0. Playing at Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Thursday, Edem scored the team's first three goals for his first career hat-trick. He followed that with a two-goal effort Saturday against Jamestown Community College. He now leads the team with nine goals this year.

Alexander Essandoh, Men's Soccer

September 19

Athlete of the Week Alexander EssandohAlex (Ghana International H.S./Ghana) recorded his first career hat-trick in TC3's win over Corning Community College on Sunday. He is the first Panther with a three-goal effort this year, and now has a season total of eight points on four goals. For his career, he has 12 points, the most among any active player.

Audrey Cullen, Volleyball

September 12

Athlete of the Week Audrey CullenAudrey (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) led the Panthers to a strong week on the court. TC3 started with a conference win over Cayuga on Wednesday, with Audrey blasting a team-best nine kills. On Saturday TC3 opened Regional play by going 2-1, and she again provided the firepower. She had the team high in kills for each match, finishing the day with 23. For the season, she has led the team in kills each match, helping the Panthers to a 5-3 record.

Kendra Wagstaff, Women's Soccer

September 5

Athlete of the Week Kendra WagstaffKendra (Candor H.S./Candor) powered TC3 to its first win of the season, a 4-1 decision over Niagara County Community College. She had a role in all four goals, scoring two and assisting on the other two, as the Panthers even their Region III record at 1-1.
